Where it starts

This was the first photo I took in our new home, six years ago. I still remember that moment clearly.

It was a quiet late evening, just after sunset. I was sitting at the kitchen island—my favorite spot in that house—preparing small snacks and pouring myself a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. Under the warm light of the clay pendants above the soft marble surface, the eucalyptus leaves and buds in the vase began to glow gently. Even the chocolate-dipped pretzels and half a grapefruit on the table started to look like a still life painting to me. The moment felt frozen, and I was deeply inside that scene. I captured that beautiful moment with my phone camera, and later, I painted it.

The painting took several weeks to complete. I wanted to bring the softness and the fully embraced feeling of that moment into the work, and I think I captured it quite well. Since then, I’ve kept the painting in a place where I can see it most.

This moment became the beginning of how I create my artworks—and objects—through everyday observation. I enjoy simply sitting, watching, and noticing. Observation is something I do daily, and something I deeply love.

When you sit quietly and really look, you begin to notice how ordinary moments slowly turn into living artworks.

Through Quiet Tray, I want to share how these small, everyday moments become artworks and objects —each carrying a story.
